Gideon Tsang (b. 1974, Saskatoon, Canada) is a fine art photographer based in Austin, Texas. For 25 years he led spiritual communities, and his art grew out of that practice. He makes paintings with a camera — large-scale, contemplative photographs created entirely through in-camera techniques.

His current project, "Because We Fall," takes its title from a Japanese death poem: "Flowers are flowers because they fall." Using intentional blur and motion, Tsang photographs not the flower but the falling — time made visible. He sees the camera as a paintbrush and his practice as a form of contemplation, walking for hours and collaborating with the wilderness to make images that sit in the space between photography and painting.

Tsang's work has been exhibited internationally in Italy and Canada, and in galleries throughout Texas. He is currently in the FotoFilmic Annual Mentoring Program, with exhibitions forthcoming in Paris and Bowen Island, Canada in 2026. As founder of Austin art spaces Space 12 and Vesper, he has been part of the city's creative community for over two decades. His photographs are held in private collections nationally and appear in hospitality environments and corporate collections.
